Ghost Auction for Waterwheel

It's time once again for a December blog auction. This will be for a custom zippered Ghost Hoodie, size XL. There were only 5 of these made total, and I have saved this one for auction. 100% of the proceeds will be going to the Waterwheel Foundation. I think that this exact thing happened, just last year.

The garment is a Gildan 9.3 oz., 50% cotton/50% polyester preshrunk fleece full zip hooded sweatshirt (YKK metal zipper). The color is sport grey, and the size is XL. The full graphic appears on the back, and the front features a smaller ghost with the text "I'd Call Him Instead".

We're going to keep things very simple and keep the auction here on this blog, rather than pay a fee through another auction service. Please either sign into your Google account, or provide us with an email address when you post your bid in the comments section below. The auction will run until Monday Dec 17th. (12/17/12) at 6pm EST. This should give me a chance to put it in the mail  before Christmas. (Please understand I cannot guarantee that USPS will deliver this by the 24th). The winner should be ready to PayPal the winning amount to me when the auction has ended. I will transfer the donation directly to the Waterwheel Foundation.

Bid in the comments section below. Let's make the starting bid $40.

Colorado 2012 Poster - Metal Edition

I'd like to introduce a short run of seven posters screen printed on metal. The four color screen print is coated with a clear acrylic to prevent flaking or scratching. The "posters" will be slightly longer than the 1st edition, but the same width (8 x15).  The edges and corners of the metals have been sanded down smooth.

We are very happy with the finished product. The Print Monkey completed the printing and finishing on these this week. These will be signed on Saturday in Denver. There will be three of these available. These will not be listed for sale on the website. Please contact me at jiggslikesphish@gmail.com if you are interested in obtaining one of these.

For more detailed pictures, see the listing for the poster on Expresso Beans.

Colorado 2012 Poster Process

Finished art.
It was a challenge trying to capture the industry of Commerce City in a fun way. The idea of turning a factory into a reel to reel came out of some other doodles for this one.The smoke actually happened by accident, which is always nice.

First reel to reel sketch
The last elements to come together on this one were the loudspeaker and the pipes. At that point I think the idea was floated to try and use a metallic copper to pull off a realistic color. I am excited to see how that comes out.

Follow along with this post as the posters get printed. I will post updates here during the process as I get them.

Only 50 are being made available for online sales.

Oklahoma City Recon

Since this is Phish's first time at the Zoo Amphitheater, as well as their first time in Oklahoma, I thought we could take a look at some recon photos, talk about the unique history of this venue, and put up some links for folks not familiar with the area.

The venue was built in 1936, and has hosted such names as Styx, the Alman Bros. Band, Snoop (back when he was) Dogg, Robert Plant and Allison Kraus, BB King, Judas Priest and Willie Nelson...among others. (Actually Styx seems to play there quite a lot...but, anyway...) The very first performance held there was "The Circus of 21 Death-Defying Acts".

The amphitheater was built during the depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The structure had been used on and off over the years. The building fell out of use in the 60's. However, after some renovations in the 70's it began a return to use with a regular summer concert schedule beginning in 2004. Able to hold up to 10,000, the entire seating area is open air and was constructed using native sandstone.

Thanks to our friend Workman, we have a few photos of the venue itself and the surrounding grounds.

For more info about the venue, seating, or the Zoo itself, check out the links below. If you are a local, be sure to add any recommendations you may have in the comments section below.

Looking for something to do during the day? Find out more about Cowboys at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Or maybe check out one of the many other things to do in Bricktown, like the Botanical Gardens, Water Taxi, or....wait...there's a Banjo museum?

If you happen to be in town the day before the show and like baseball, the AAA Oklahoma City Redhawks have a 7:05pm game against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Go Redhawks.

Oklahoma City Poster Process

Here's a peek into the process that led to the Oklahoma City design. All these are usually created in the same way. Starting with basic sketches, then moving on to adding ink, then scanning everything in. Sometimes the idea doesn't get fully fleshed out until I have everything on the canvas, as was the case with this one, and also the Dick's art.

Finished Art
This is the very first two sketches that started the ball rolling for the Oklahoma City poster. I thought about all the different animals that could work with a traffic light on their head...and of course the giraffe won out.

Once I had the main element ready, I began laying everything out. This one took me a lot longer than any others. Not sure why, but I played with the spacing on this one for what seemed like forever.

This is when the idea for the corners and the border struck me. Zoo. Slave. I love it when an idea guides you. It was downhill from this point.

Once everything came together like I wanted it, I sat and tweaked it until I liked it. Then it sat like that for about a week or so until I added the moon.

Once the art was completed, I converted it and sent it off to The Print Monkey.
At this point the color separations have been done.

First screen is burned.
A lovely shade of "giraffe".
4 more to go

Yellow is down!
Boom.
